NFTs will not be integrated into Dimensionals Game
Today we're announcing that NFTs will not be directly integrated into the Dimensionals, which will be launching on Steam later this year. In 2023, we created our NFT collection "Genesis Stones", but after a year of development we have decided to shutter the project and focus on making the game as fun as possible.
Why are we doing this?
Originally, we hoped to create a better player experience by creating a blockchain marketplace for trading our heroes inside and outside of the game. We were extremely excited by the opportunity to build on new technology and do something innovative. But as we came to market, here is what we found:
- Gamers are happier without the blockchain
Most gamers trust the security and permanence of current platforms like steam, and don’t feel there is much need to make them decentralized. Blockchain is still an early technology, and there are real security and user experience concerns most people have. In fact they would prefer to avoid blockchain entirely and often won't play games that require it.
- Leading gaming platforms don’t allow blockchain
Steam, Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo don't allow direct NFT integration into games on their platforms. Dimensionals is built to be played across all platforms, pc, console and mobile. We want to build a gaming experience that is complete and consistently fun no matter where you play it.
- Streamer’s audiences don’t want to see blockchain on stream
Viewers on twitch don’t want to see games that integrate blockchain – it’s always very poorly received. Even if streamers were interested in streaming these games, they would risk frustrating their community after working for years to build a trusting relationship with them.
- The web3 audience wants a different experience
The web3 audience still loves games, but are first and foremost traders. Trader's like the experience of participating and profiting in a marketplace and to build a successful game for this audience requires focusing the game completely around this experience, which is fun for only a small subset of total gamers.
Going Forward
Our goal is to make Dimensionals into the next household gaming IP and that starts with the successful early access launch of our game on Steam this year. We are focusing 100% of our effort on that launch without blockchain integrated.
As of 2024, launching a blockchain game to the mainstream is almost impossible. The target audience is small, the major platforms don’t support their distribution, most streamers won’t promote them, and they require a very specific type of niche design.
As we grow Dimensionals, we are excited to explore innovative ways to use new technology to make our IP even cooler - But we will never force anyone to use blockchain as part of their gameplay experience.
